SFE.org.uk: a modern membership hub for Scotland’s financial industry

TwoFifths Design, a website design and development studio in Edinburgh, designed and built SFE.org.uk for Scottish Financial Enterprise, the representative body for Scotland’s financial services industry. The brief was to tell a clear story about who they are, make membership and events effortless, and give members a reason to come back.

The brief

SFE needed three things: tell a clear story about who they are, make events and membership effortless, and give members a reason to return. Those goals shaped every decision across structure, content, and technology.

Co-design with the SFE team

We ran short, focused workshops with membership, policy, and events leads to map user journeys. That work produced a new information architecture centred on “What we do,” “Membership,” “Events,” and “Members.” It reduces clicks and makes the path to value obvious.

Built for members first

  • Members database: a filterable directory that surfaces organisations across banking, insurance, fintech, and professional services. It helps users discover partners and peers in seconds.

  • Events flow: a clean calendar and detail pages that highlight agendas, partners, and speakers. The goal: increase registrations and repeat attendance.

  • Member platform integration: a streamlined login and registration path connects public pages to gated value for the community.

Content that carries the sector’s story

We designed flexible editorial templates so SFE can publish policy work, sector groups, and leadership content without friction. Pages like “Special Interest Groups,” “Our Board,” and “From Scotland to the World” now read clearly and index well.

A pragmatic tech choice

SFE’s stack uses Squarespace as the content engine to keep publishing simple and costs predictable. Our workflow included a staging environment, content migration, and component-based theming for consistency.

Outcomes

  • Clear paths for membership enquiries and renewals.

  • Better discovery of members and events.

  • A site that reflects the scale and ambition of Scotland’s financial services.

What’s next

We’re tracking behaviour with analytics to refine journeys and content. The roadmap includes richer member profiles, smarter event filtering, and automated content blocks for policy updates.

Thinking about a membership site or industry hub? Let’s build it.
